While few would argue shopping at Shaman Drum's texbook and retail sales stores is definitely a different experience - but exactly why its out of the ordinary depends on who you talk to. A number University professors say the store is a valuable part of the community with its sophisticated poetry and literary readings, off-the-beat-path selection of books and anti-cooperate attitude. But some students say they are tired of waiting in long lines to pay too much for competition-free textbook sales.

Shaman Drum: Behind the scenes

From the multitude of coffee shops and hot dog stands to the recently revamped Diag, life on Central Campus is not short on character. It's where students jam houses large and small for parties, head to rallies or catch sporting events - it is also where most classes are held.

Every Sunday we all go through the same thing. We wake up at around one or two o' clock, watch several hours of TV and spend another several hours on the phone - all in an attempt to avoid the dreaded thought of homework. Well, Tios Mexican Café provides a way to help the average University student avoid their academic assignments this weekend with the eatery's free, monthly salsa taste testing.

Used music provides cheap, hip alternative

Ann Arbor's thriving used music scene offers music lovers an opportunity to discover an exciting variety of musical treasures, ranging from the mainstream to the more obscure and hard to find. Used CDs and records are generally much cheaper than new ones, with prices ranging from $7 to $10. But although the prices are cheaper, there is no discernable difference in the quality of used and new CDs.
