Finally, after weeks of speculation, the Marcus Ray investigation is nearing resolution.
The Michigan Athletic Department, which submitted the results of its internal investigation to the NCAA last Friday, may make an announcement about Ray's future as early as today.

It was not your typical head-down, forearm-bared, shoulder-leveled Jerame Tuman reception.
It was much more elegant than that. It was stretching, reaching and cradling ever so carefully. It all took place in mid-air. It ended with a ballerina's toe-touch, one toe down inbounds, before the rest of the 248 pounds crashed to the ground out of bounds.

Soccer looks to turn season around: Limauro and the rest of the Wolverines want to improve on slow start
Disarray - it's the only word that appropriately describes Michigan's soccer season. Last year Michigan won the Big Ten Tournament championship and earned a berth in the NCAA tournament. Additionally almost all of last year's championship team returns.
Last weekend's showing at the Wolverine Invitational wasn't exactly the high point of the season for the Michigan women's golf team. But at the very least, the Wolverines now have two weeks to regroup and fine-tune their games for the Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette.

NCAA attempts to reach settlement
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The NCAA, which can no longer argue it did not break the law, is trying to reach a settlement with its coaches and reduce an $80 million obligation.
On Monday, the Supreme Court refused to hear the NCAA's appeal, letting stand a ruling that the NCAA acted unlawfully in capping salaries of entry-level coaches at $16,000 annually.

SOUTH BEND (AP) - This is the Jarious Jackson that Bob Davie has been looking for.

Field hockey forward honored by Big Ten
Kelli Gannon, a sophomore on the Michigan field hockey team, was named co-Big Ten offensive player of the week yesterday.
Gannon was instrumental in Michigan's win over Iowa and Northwestern last week. Against the Hawkeyes on Friday, she scored the game's only goals in Michigan's 2-0 shutout.
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - A year ago, Georgia coach Jim Donnan stormed off the field at Neyland Stadium, convinced that Tennessee ran up the score.
The Bulldogs have a chance to get even Saturday.

The sun was gleaming in the California sky, encouraging the natives to skip work and spend their time on the beach. Tall blonde women in bikinis were all over the place, making for a college guy's paradise.
Michigan defenseman Mike Van Ryn lived this frat-boy fantasy this past summer, as he worked as an intern for an advertising firm in California. With all this time to play and look at the beautiful women, what did Van Ryn do? Work.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska starting quarterback Bobby Newcombe is "a little questionable" for Saturday's game at No. 18 Texas A&M and will see limited action in practice this week.
"He made excellent progress for a period of time and we thought he was over the hump," Nebraska coach Frank Solich said. "Now his progress has slowed down dramatically and is really at a stop."

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Florida's two-headed quarterback monster has been slain. Steve Spurrier saw enough red-zone mishaps in the sixth-ranked Gators' 16-10 win over Alabama Saturday to sack his two-quarterback system.
The Florida coach said he will let junior Doug Johnson and sophomore Jesse Palmer fight it out for the full-time job in practice.
