Former Michigan goaltender Marty Turco and Michigan's 1998 NCAA championship hockey season received some closure last night.
In a defining moment for Michigan players, fans and coaches, Turco returned to Yost Ice Arena to help raise the 1998 NCAA championship banner before a CCHA game against Lake Superior.
Legends, hopefuls relive dream
In a physical CCHA opener last night, the Michigan hockey team defeated Lake Superior, 2-0, at Yost Ice Arena.
Pregame emotion gave rise to a penalty-ridden first period, as six Lakers and two Wolverines were sent to the box. Michigan capitalized early on a four-on-three power play when senior assistant captain Dale Rominski took a feed from Scott Crozier to dump in the 1-0 goal.

Two different teams showed up to play volleyball at Cliff Keen Arena on Friday night. But it wasn't just Michigan's opponent who changed for the seventh annual Rock the House game.
A new-look Michigan squad solidly swept No. 22 Minnesota (2-3 Big Ten, 12-4 overall), 16-14, 15-5, 17-15, in a match that was characterized by intensity, emotion and some record-setting performances.

KALAMAZOO - To say that everything went the way of the Wolverines in Saturday's Michigan Intercollegiate would be to stretch the truth.
Granted, the fifth-ranked Wolverines packed up the entire race and placed five of their runners among the top 10 overall finishers, en route to a 29-point team performance and the title of the state's best team.

Penn State proves too much for 'M'
The No. 11 Michigan field hockey team entered this weekend atop the Big Ten. To stay there, it needed to defeat the two teams competing for the distnction - No. 8 Ohio State and No. 6 Penn State.
Their 1-0 victory over Ohio State, and 4-2 loss to Penn State left the Wolverines in a tie with the Buckeyes and Lions for the Big Ten lead.
Field hockey youth movement paying off
Youth is an attribute that has haunted many teams in collegiate athletics. Often youth is used as an excuse for younger players making mistakes, or as a sign for the future. Michigan's field hockey team doesn't use youth as an excuse, instead it uses it to win games.

Lauren Oppenlander's dad has always enjoyed waterskiing. The rest of the family likes it, too. But, living out near Kalamazoo, there never were many spots suitable for practicing. The closest place was a good 45 minutes away, and the water there tended to be choppy, anyway.
It all started with a little spray of ice.
Lake Superior center Jeff Attard, charging hard while following the puck into the glove of Michigan goaltender Josh Blackburn, stopped a little short and abrupt, leaving a few shavings of the Yost Ice Arena surface on Blackburn's jersey and in his face.
Hard hitting no problem for Michigan
When you're a young hockey team like Lake Superior, en route to being outshot 38-14 by defending national champion Michigan, you look for every advantage you can get.
Lake Superior coach Scott Borek bought into that theory yesterday, trying to persuade referee Matt Shegos into letting the Lakers' Blaine McCauley off the hook without serving his minor penalty for slashing.

Shutouts nice twice for Michigan: Hoosiers, Illini blanked
A perfect weekend - that's what the Michigan soccer team can rightfully boast of after shutting out both No. 19 Indiana and unranked Illinois en route to a pair of 2-0 victories.
Traveling to Champaign for the first time in program history yesterday, the Wolverines (4-3-1 Big Ten, 9-3-1 overall) boosted their Big Ten record a notch above .500 for the first time this season.
Only one record remains for Berendowsky: Berendowsky could hold as many as six Michigan records - and she's only a junior
The Michigan soccer team clearly has its share of Big Ten standouts. In highlighting the three athletes that stand out this season, it would be impossible to overlook the brightest star of all - junior Amber Star Berendowsky.
Yes, "Star" really is her middle name.
The Michigan men's tennis team is playing its first match of the season in the All-American Tournament in Austin, Texas. So far, the squad is more than holding its own.
"I am very pleased with the day, our guys beat a lot of good players," Michigan coach Brian Eisner said.

Running in a light drizzle all day and on a muddy course, the Michigan men's cross country team managed to successfully defend its 1997 team title at this year's Murray Keatinge Invitational in Orono, Maine this past Saturday.
The sixth-ranked Wolverines, running on Maine's course, finished with 27 points to second-place Iowa's 64. In addition to taking the team title for the second straight year, a Wolverine took the individual title at the event for the fourth consecutive year.

On a streaky day in college football, UCLA, Tennessee and Kansas State came up winners, Nebraska was a rare loser and top-ranked Ohio State kept sailing along toward a trip to the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 4 for a shot at its first national title in 30 years.
Nebraska husked; stunned players 'don't understand'
EAST LANSING (AP) - For most of four quarters, Antwaan Randle El was putting on a brilliant display of football at Spartan Stadium. Then he stepped into a hit by Michigan State's Robert Newkirk.
The redshirt freshman tried to play on, but his Indiana teammates saw it was a mistake. Their quarterback couldn't remember the plays.
