'M' ekes out 2-1 OT win

YPSILANTI - After ninety minutes of lackluster play, a revitalized Michigan soccer team unleashed the potential one expects from the No. 11 squad in the nation. The Wolverines made quick work of Eastern Michigan in overtime yesterday, notching a 2-1 win behind a game-winning goal from Jessica Limauro.

Around the Horn: Presented with options, the Big Ten declines

As a defensive back, there's nothing like the feeling of reading the offensive line and sensing a run up the middle. Then, on a typical dive play, you see the fullback breaking through the line. You come up with a full head of steam, ready to flatten the unsuspecting brute who happens to be twice your size.

Big Mac eats up No. 63

ST. LOUIS (AP) - It took Mark McGwire only one at-bat to regain the lead in the home-run derby. McGwire, pinch-hitting in the ninth inning, hit his 63rd home run last night to move ahead of Sammy Sosa in the great race. He ended a six-game homer drought with a solo shot off Jason Christiansen in St. Louis' 8-6 loss to Pittsburgh in the first game of a doubleheader.

Boring games mark slate

After perusing the Big Ten schedule for this week, one thing and one thing only is obvious. The only coaches with serious cojones in this conference both lie within the borders of the state of Michigan. This proves to be another uneventful weekend within the realm of the Big Ten, as the only important game on the schedule features Ohio State and Missouri (which, by the way, was scheduled by John Cooper when Missouri was a laughable program).

Softball tries to continue dynasty

With national championship hopes in some sports gone for Michigan fans, it's not too hard to start thinking about the Michigan softball team. And why not? The girls of spring are a near-dynasty.

Film class isn't all fun and games

For the Michigan football team, accepting two defeats may not be as difficult as analyzing them. The early part of this week forced the Wolverines to re-examine themselves and their production as individuals, in light of their recent losses to Notre Dame and Syracuse. Unfortunately for the 0-2 Wolverines, analyzing the game tape is hardly a release from reality.

Limauro's lucky charm makes difference in OT win

YPSILANTI - Jessica Limauro's good luck charm is beaten and battered. A stuffed Snoopy that's been at her side since she was three days old, he's seen better days.
