Empty seats: ITD should place consultants at all sites
In the past few years, the University has made a significant effort to incorporate technology into several aspects of student life. E-mail is no longer the preferred form of communication for computer afficionados alone, but an essential part of academic life; many professors rely on class e-mail groups to update their students on an assignment or recent lecture. The Internet is no longer a guilty pleasure but a necessary tool to find postings on class Websites.

Even those too young to remember them recognized the black and white photos that dotted news reports across the country this past week. The image of a stern young southern governor, flanked by military troops, squaring off with the national guard on the steps of a University of Alabama building is burned in our memories.
