We're three games into the season, and there has yet to be a fourth quarter worth watching. No game has offered anything worthy of sticking around for, other than watching Drew Henson.

Several thousand students packed Michigan Stadium to watch a football game this weekend. It happens most Saturdays. Generally speaking, weekends in the Ann Arbor sports world revolve around the Michigan football team. This Saturday was just like any other. But not for everybody.

BALTIMORE (AP) - The Streak is over. After 16 years and 2,632 consecutive games, Cal Ripken took himself out of the Baltimore Orioles' starting lineup last night and did not to play - ending the most amazing iron man record in sports history with just one week left in the season.

Thus far this season, the Michigan volleyball team has won 80 percent of its matches. Half of the time the Wolverines haven't allowed their opponent to win a game. And in their only two losses, Michigan took at least one game from a top-20-ranked opponent.

The Michigan volleyball team has been stuck with the moniker of an up-and-coming program for the past couple of seasons. Steadily improving, the Wolverines have been trying to catch up to the Big Ten and national powerhouses Penn State (preseason No. 1 nationally), Wisconsin (7), Ohio State (13) and Michigan State (17). If the Wolverines hope to establish themselves as a power in the Big Ten and national rankings, they need to do it this season.

It wasn't exactly pretty. But it sure wasn't as ugly as the first two weeks. It was head-down, chin-strap-buckled, cleats-digging, smash-mouth football for a while on Saturday, and that meant only one thing: Michigan was once again running the ball.

On Saturday, as Michigan throttled Eastern Michigan 59-20, the Wolverines realized how important suspended safety Marcus Ray is to the secondary. His absence - Ray was declared ineligible by Michigan coach Lloyd Carr after allegations of 'improper contact with a sports agent' - left a huge hole that Eastern quarterback Walt Church seized with a vengeance.

If Drew Henson possesses the Golden Arm among freshmen on the Michigan football team, then kicker Hayden Epstein must have the Golden Leg. Epstein, whose long-distance leg was approaching mythical status the more it remained in hiding, finally got a chance to kick in a game situation against Eastern Michigan and confirmed the hints.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - In the end, there really was no option against No. 1 Ohio State. "That was a good old, rock 'em, sock 'em football game," coach John Cooper said after his Buckeyes (3-0) beat No. 21 Missouri 35-14.

Most students can remember the wild celebrations and the added national exposure that two national championships brought to Michigan last year. Long ago, the world was not as sports-oriented as it is today, and championships were not received with the same attention and fanfare that they are now. The 1953 national champion Michigan baseball team was one team that did not have the opportunity to celebrate its championship - until now.

After an impressive 2-0 weekend at home and a five-game winning streak, things were looking up for the Michigan soccer team. But the Wolverines, ranked No. 10 in the nation, looked away for a split second - and all of a sudden Big Ten rivals Wisconsin and Northwestern brought Michigan's streak, and hopes of Big Ten supremacy, to a grinding halt.
