With this rivalry, anything can happen

Lets face it. This game is just much more appealing when both teams are on the same level. Last year, everybody thought both teams were good. It turned out, eventually, that Michigan State was no better than in most years, but before the game, it appeared that both teams were good. So it was exciting.

You have to laugh or cry at State tradition

I think I was about three when I heard my first Michigan State joke: "What does a Spartan say on the first day of work?" "Ya want fries with that?"

Season so far shows Wolverines' true blues

The scene was once again a familiar one at the Big House. The Wolverines had stomped the opposition and the maize-and-blue backers - all 300 or so that were left in the stands - were clapping politely in appreciation, bringing to mind a rowdy crowd at a John Tesh concert.

The Michigan women's field hockey team - defending Big Ten champs - is faced with this problem. As the Wolverines prepare for this weekend's Hawkeye Intercollegiate in Iowa City, Carras is continuing his line-up shuffle that he expects to continue throughout the season.

Tourney to preview Big Tens

After a one-week break in tournament action, the Michigan women's golf team will head to Purdue this weekend to take part in the Lady Northern Intercollegiate. The event will serve as a fall preview of the Big Ten Championships to be held at the same site this spring.

On Saturday, Wolverines have overall edge

it has to be Michigan State's. The Spartans rank 10th among conference teams in pass defense (just ahead of you-know-who), thanks in part to the Amp Campbell's season-ending injury.

McGwire has no answer for Sosa, goes 1-for-3

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Mark McGwire's cushion is going, going, gone. McGwire had two games to answer Sammy Sosa's two-homer salvo, but came up empty. So the home run derby remained tied at 65 last night after McGwire went 1-for-3 with a walk in the St. Louis Cardinals' 6-3 victory over the Montreal Expos.
