Clutch Cargo's in downtown Pontiac exploded with clouds of dry-ice smoke and a massive squall of electric guitar-guided cacophony this past Friday, as The Jesus and Mary Chain and openers Mercury Rev bestowed mutual blasts of noise upon a packed house.

Monaco ballet sets classy standard

The most astonishing and surprisingly excellent ballet of the year was presented this past Thursday to Her Serene Highness Princess Caroline of Monaco, who arrived in Detroit specifically for the occasion. As is always predicted with royalty, the Princess and her entourage arrived fashionably late, causing a setback with the start of the performance.

It's not easy being a jam band. To be successful, such groups must delicately straddle the line between improvisational genius and pure self-indulgence. At the same time, one must endure endless touring schedules and constant comparisons to Grateful Dead (as the only rock-based jam band that most critics have heard of).

The University Symphony Orchestra, a beloved part of the musical tradition at the University, is set to perform two pieces this evening. The theme will be heroism of epic proportions, a concept not too unfamiliar in literature or music.

Throughout the past several years, we have seen an explosion in teen slasher films, bringing an endless parade of TV hotties onto the big screen during their summer hiatuses. The latest addition to this tired genre is the third generation B-list horror dynasty wannabe "Urban Legend," a movie that is scary for all the wrong reasons.
