Women gymnasts head to NCAAs

After what has been a roller-coaster ride of a season, the Michigan women's gymnastics team finds itself just one competition shy of attaining the coveted triple crown - the Big Ten, NCAA Regional and NCAA National Championships.

This Thursday, the fourth-ranked Wolverines will travel to Salt Lake City to match up with the top 11 teams in the country and vie for the national championship of women's gymnastics.

If attained, it will mark the first time that a Michigan women's team has won a national title - in any sport.

"We are peaking at the right time," Michigan coach Bev Plocki said. "We're not going to be burned out at the national championships."

That's good news, considering Michigan has been going full throttle ever since March 6, when they topped their season-high team score in a drubbing of No. 25 Arizona.
