Seven vehicles had been in the area near the residence hall prior to the alleged attempt and all but one left the scene.
The remaining car, a sport utility vehicle, was parked in front of the building, apparently waiting for the pinball machine, DPS reports state. When the five to six suspects saw DPS officers they dropped the pinball machine and fled the area heading North on Murfin Boulevard.
A description of the vehicle and the license plate number were provided to DPS officers by witnesses. The owner of the vehicle is a University student, but officers could not locate an Ann Arbor area address for the suspect.
The man said he was holding his three year-old son in his arms at the time he was pushed, and that he has been having ongoing problems with suspect for the past year. He also told DPS officers he had a report on file with another law enforcement agency about the suspect.
Reports state the suspect is the father of a high school basketball player who is being recruited by the University's basketball program.
The victim said the suspect walked toward a University staff member after the assault, and was last seen talking to that staff member.
DPS officers responded to the center, and obtained a physical description of the patient from staff members. DPS officers then located the patient in the Huron River near Island Park.
DPS officers coaxed the patient out of the river, and after a physical altercation, restrained the patient with hand cuffs. The subject was transported to the University Hospitals' emergency room.
The driver of the vehicle was intoxicated, reports state.
While the officers conducted a field sobriety test, a pipe containing suspected marijuana was observed on the drivers seat, DPS officials reported.
The second subject was then removed from the vehicle, and the vehicle was searched and officers found a bag containing a substance that appeared to be marijuana. While attempting a pat down of a second suspect, the suspect became resistive, and assaulted one of the officers. He was subdued and handcuffed by the officers and was arrested, reports stated.
The incident was reported by a student who witnessed the couple having sexual relations.
The one female and one male suspect have been found trespassing previously, according to DPS officials.
The two were escorted from the area. The incident is under investigation by DPS officials.
