It was not a hugely successful weekend for any of the top four CCHA teams, but a battle is heating up for the league's third and fourth positions.
Two points now separate the fourth from the sixth place teams - and anyone worse off than fourth at the end of the season sacrifices home-ice advantage for the CCHA playoffs.
A second period goal from Ferris State's Jim Dube was enough to stave off Notre Dame, 1-0, on Saturday, bringing the Bulldogs within a point of the cut-off rank. Ferris State's Vince Owen led the Bulldogs to the shutout with 38 saves.
Northern Michigan 7, Ohio State 2;
Ohio State 6, Northern Michigan 2
The Wildcats scored five goals in the third to cap off the destruction of Ohio State, 7-2, in Marquette on Saturday.
No single Wildcat scored twice in the contest, although Chad Theuer had a goal and two assists.
The seven goals allowed by Ohio State tied a season high. The Buckeyes also allowed six goals to Niagara on Oct. 31 of this season.
Despite being shelled with 45 shots, Jeff Maund played 60 minutes and made 38 saves.
The Bucks had better luck on Friday, as they downed Northern, 6-2. Boisvert had a goal and an assist on the night, and Maund had a better night, letting in only two of 33 shots.
Bowling Green 10, Alaska-Fairbanks 3
Bowling Green scored 10 goals on 28 shots to embarrass Alaska-Fairbanks in the last frontier, 10-3. Chris Bonvie and Adam Edinger both had back-to-back goals for the Falcons on Saturday, and goalie Mike Savard stopped 18 of 21 in the rout.
Michigan State 1, Notre Dame 0
In familiar fashion, Brian Adams took a feed from Mike York for the game winning goal at Munn Arena - this time against Notre Dame on Friday night.
Senior left wing Bryan Adams scored his 17th goal of the year, giving him a share of the team lead with Hobey-Baker candidate Mike York.
Michigan State extended its unbeaten streak to 18 games (14-0-4), the third-longest in school history
Michigan State's Joe Blackburn recorded the shutout with 21 saves as the Spartans extended their lead on the CCHA.
