Michigan steals Big Ten crown, tourney bid:
Alcaraz bats in winning run as Blue celebrates, 12-11

COLUMBUS - This time not even Mother Nature could stop them. The Michigan baseball team broke into a rousing chorus of "The Victors" at Ohio State's Bill Davis Stadium just before the rain could drive them off the field for one last time.

'M' softball, host and No. 1 seed, rst to be eliminated

There was no joy in Michigan - mighty Traci has struck out. Out even before they could score a run, the top-seeded Wolverines were the first team eliminated from their own Regional with back-to-back losses this weekend to Florida Atlantic and Notre Dame.

Women run second at league meet

WEST LAFAYETTE - The Wolverines may not have performed as well as their capabilities might suggest Sunday, but the final result was nothing short of respectable. The Michigan women's track team finished fourth at the Big Ten meet with a team score of 107 points. Hometown favorite Purdue captured first place with a 143 points - clipping second-place Wisconsin by 21 points. Minnesota placed third with a 111 points.

Poor hitting hurts Wolverines throughout postseason stint

Michigan's Tammy Mika had been in a bit of a slump. The centerfielder had only three hits in her last 16 at bats. Now, in the regional tournament that top-seeded Michigan was hosting, the Wolverines were about to be eliminated. Mika was facing perhaps the last at bat of her career. There was one out in the top of the seventh. Her team was down 1-0. With nobody on, Michigan needed a runner on base in order to stay alive.

Victory thrills even proven champs

WEST LAFAYETTE - It was a scene that epitomized the highs and lows of a three day "marathon," known as the Big Ten women's track and field meet. Angie Stanifer had just won a wrenching 800-meter run at the wire, and no sooner had she looked up smiling than Nicole Forrester swooped down from the high jump pits with a congratulatory hug.

Men sixth at Big Tens; Cantin champ in 1,500

WEST LAFAYETTE - Coaching in the final meet of his storied career as Michigan men's track and field head coach, Jack Harvey watched as his Wolverines turned in a middle-of-the-road performance at this year's Big Ten Championships - at Purdue's Rankin Track and Field, the Wolverines finished sixth out of 10 represented teams.

Seniors lead Michigan to rst playoff title in 12 seasons

All season, the Michigan baseball team has counted on the outstanding play and leadership of its 14 seniors to guide it to victory. Never was that more evident than in the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament yesterday as the seniors guided the Wolverines to their first Big Ten Tournament title since 1987.
