Spartans rebound in Showcase

Rustyn Dolyny scored two power-play goals Saturday night, snapping a nine-game slump, as Michigan State snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-2 win over Minnesota in the College Hockey Showcase.

With the win, Michigan State (11-4-0) improved to 2-5 against the Golden Gophers (5-8-1) in the Showcase series.

Michigan defeated Wisconsin 4-1 in the other Showcase game Saturday, marking the first time since 1993 that all four teams won one game in the event.

Dartmouth 4, Western Michigan 3: Jamie Herrington's goal 5:31 into the third period proved to be the game winner as Dartmouth defeated Western Michigan 4-3 Saturday night.

Herrington took a feed from Mike Maturo and broke in alone on Broncos' goalie Chris Peck, giving Dartmouth a 4-2 lead.

Western (6-6-2) pulled within 4-3 with 5:04 left when Corey Waring scored on a slapshot from the right point.

Ferris State 3, Clarkson 2: Christian Schroder's first goal snapped a 1-1 tie and Ferris State went on to a 3-2 win over Clarkson on Saturday night, extending the Bulldogs' winning streak to seven games.

Matt Poapst scored both goals for Clarkson (2-7-2), giving him five for the season.

It is the longest string since the Bulldogs (10-6-0) won nine straight during the 1990-91 season.

Ferris State took a 1-0 lead on Brian McCullough's power-play goal in the first period, his fifth. Clarkson tied it on Poapst's fourth goal in the second.
