Little plastic slice of heaven entails student freebies, headaches

"Free movie passes...free T- shirts...free phone cards..." These are just some of the perks offered to students who pass by Ulrich's, the Union Bookstore or any other area that draws steady student traffic. Credit card companies hope that, by giving away free gifts, they will entice students into agreeing to apply for a credit card, whether it be Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express.

Maize and Blue Chips: Students practice investing skills in cyberspace

Information regarding the stock market is now ever so much more accessible, thanks to the Internet. Paralleling the increase of stockholders in the United States during the past few years, more college students are finding their way towards investing at the click of a mouse.

Students work hard for money, some get treated right

Short on rent this month? Find yourself scavenging between furniture cushions to pay your friend back a couple of bucks for last month's phone bill? Or do you just think it would be nice to have some extra weekend spending cash? Look no further! If these problems sound familiar, there are indications Ann Arbor just might be the place to be.

'Silence' is Golden

It's hard to scare modern audiences. In recent years, directors have picked up on this and started making scary movies that are closer in content to comedies than thrillers. (Were we really scared by "Scream," or did we just laugh?)

Soderbergh's freezing cinematics throw 'The Limey' to its death

Fresh from his 1997 screen success, "Out of Sight," director Steven Soderbergh offers up a similar action-esque drama foray with "The Limey," a slightly less intriguing film that holds potential at every turn, but is hindered by a weak script and choppy sequencing.

Campus high rollers don't always know when to hold 'em

"It was 2 a.m. and we had little stacks worth $200 each," recounted LSA junior Mike, who requested that his last name be withheld. "We were trying to make a St. Louis arch between (our separate stacks). Eventually we did and won $2,500. And then we went to the strip club after.
