"Go" consists of three interwoven stories, told out of sequence, that involve characters living life to the fullest. Sound familiar? It should, as the format worked to perfection in the revolutionary "Pulp Fiction." And although a debt to Quentin Tarantino is obvious, passing "Go" off as just another rip-off of "Pulp Fiction" is a mistake.
Director Doug Liman ("Swingers") packs "Go" with energy from the instant it begins, as he bounces around from techno raves to drug busts to car chases in Las Vegas and never misses a beat. The film also benefits from its eclectic young cast including Taye Diggs, Katie Holmes, Breckin Meyer, Jay Mohr, Scott Wolf and the supreme Sarah Polley, all of whom contribute to the madness that makes the movie.
The DVD version of "Go" is loaded with extra features. First, there's a commentary track with Liman (who also served as the film's director of photography) and Stephen Mirrione, the film's editor. The two share several great production stories ranging from a late night trip to a Las Vegas strip club to Sarah Polley's initial refusal to do the picture because it was being filmed in Los Angeles. Liman and Mirrione also give listeners a realistic view of what it was like to make the movie and delve into some of the problems that they experienced while shooting the film.
Also included are three music videos, a production featurette and 14 deleted scenes, many of which include great moments left on the cutting room floor. So go with the flow, and check out one of the year's best movies to date.
