Arts Stories for 4-7-2000Time to buy the film farmTonight marks the fourth annual M-Flicks Film Farm, an evening dedicated to showcasing the talent of student filmmakers. Participation in Film Farm is open to the entire student body and "allows students of all backgrounds, not just film majors, the chance to have their films shown," says M-Flicks co-president Mike Cataletto. This year's Film Farm will show 14 short films that were selected from a pool of 38 entries at the Natural Science Auditorium. The evening's program includes a chance for viewers to vote on their favorite film in four categories: Most original piece, best screenplay, best cinematography and best of festival.'U' students laugh up career hopesWhat do you get when you add two funny guys, a few hilarious films and a friendship that will last a lifetime? If such a flirter were arrested, he would be given the choice to marry the object of his flirtation, or to be beheaded. Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado (the Emperor) is accused of flirting with an elderly court lady, Katisha. His aversion to marriage to this woman prompts Nanki-Poo to run away from his father and join the Titipu town band. While in the band, he meets and falls in love with Yum-Yum, who is not free to marry, as she is the ward of Ko-Ko, the town tailor.'Death' at the door; a look into mind of egomaniacTo be considered the Clara Barton of criminals awaiting the death penalty might sound like a respectable distinction. And, in theory it is. But for Fred Leuchter, this distinction is laid out rather ironically.
