Naked Mile Update: April 16, 2000

Police threats result in smaller turnout at Naked Mile

They sang "Hail to the Victors" as they reached the Cube sculpture in Regents' Plaza. They encouraged the crowd to make noise. One rode a unicycle. Another was in a wheelchair. And none of them were wearing clothes.

'This is a dangerous event'

One of the easiest ways to tell that the Naked Mile has evolved from a senior tradition to a commercialized event involving far more people than just University students is by conducting a simple Internet search.

The idea that a movie that at its very foundation is little more than the oldest joke in the book (well, okay - the oldest joke since Jesus) could be mildly entertaining, let alone laugh-out-loud funny, is a frightening one. On a scale of one to petrifying, it comes in somewhere around the same ranking as the idea that an actor not only can never give a bad performance, but can direct, too.
