Coaches pick Bill Martin as 10th athletic director

Bush rallies supporters at MSU campus

Despite late trains and dysfunctional microphones, the crowd in East Lansing was excited to see Republican Presidential nominee George W. Bush as he traveled across Michigan. Hundreds of his supporters gathered on the Michigan State University campus on Saturday to see Bush as he stopped for 15 minutes to address the rally.

Monaghan to open private Catholic women's dormitory

Billionaire and devout Catholic Tom Monaghan recently purchased a fraternity house and will be opening a dormitory for Catholic women students. The Domino's Pizza founder and former Detroit Tigers owner bought the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house last year, and will be opening the dormitory on August 25th.

Students to have personalized web portals

This fall, students will be able to access the University's new personalized portal Web environment, my.umich.edu. The site uses the same technology as commercial portals offered by Yahoo!, Excite, and America Online, but with a more University-based focus. The new Website is not intended to replace the existing University Gateway, but rather supplement the Gateway's capabilities.

'U' prof. makes plant cell discovery

The riddles of plant development are closer to being answered as University Professor Steven Clark has made a significant discovery to plant research. Clark has identified two genes, CLAVATA 1 and CLAVATA 3, and their formation of a protein ligand-receptor pair in the plant Arabidopisis, commonly used for plant research.
