Michigan notes
Softball team sixth in preseason pollMichigan's softball team is ranked sixth in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association preseason poll. No. 17 Michigan State and No. 25 Iowa join the Wolverines as Big Ten's representatives in the poll. UCLA, the defending national champion, received 25 first place votes, and will start the year No. 1. No. 2 Washington and No. 3 Fresno State garnered the other two No. 1 votes. Also ahead of Michigan are Arizona and Southern Mississippi, occupying the fourth and fifth spots. Michigan will open its season against No. 21 Stanford on February 17, at the Campbell/Cartier Classic, at San Diego State.
