Northwestern, on six-game skid, visits Crisler tonight
Northwestern coach Kevin O'Neill needs an answer - fast. His Wildcats (0-3 Big Ten, 4-11 overall) have lost six in a row, a streak that has led the coach to figure in a quick transfer. During Monday's Big Ten teleconference O'Neill joked with the telephone moderator.

Athletic officials acknowledge practice incident
Michigan athletic officials confirmed yesterday that Michigan assistant coach Lorenzo Neely was reprimanded and punished two months ago for his involvement in an incident at a November practice. "He has the same title, but he has different responsibilities," said Bruce Madej, Michigan's associate athletic director for media relations.

Into the fire, Martelli goes to work
Michigan wrestler Charles Martelli was thrown into the fire in his first weekend of wrestling, and he got burned. On Sunday, Central Michigan's fifth-ranked Ryan Cunningham scored a fall against Martelli by pinning his shoulder to the mat, the ultimate defeat in wrestling. This followed a major decision loss for Martelli to Pennsylvania's third ranked Rick Springman Saturday.

After big victories, women strive for top 25
The Michigan women's basketball team (4-1 Big Ten, 12-4 overall) was not ranked in the most recent top 25 poll, but maybe they should be. In their last two games, the Wolverines have defeated No. 19 Purdue 74-67, and embarrassed No. 12 Illinois 86-69. Yet even though both teams have worse overall and Big Ten records, both are ranked ahead of the Wolverines.
