Longtime voice of 'M' football on WUOM retiring

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - When Michigan and Michigan State battle it out on the gridiron Saturday, it will be the last time Tom Hemingway calls the game between the archrivals.

Hemingway has broadcast University of Michigan football games for nearly 40 years - his baritone voice a familiar sound on Ann Arbor's WUOM.

But he's hanging up his microphone at the end of the season - hopefully after a bowl game, he says.

"I don't know about other announcers, but I have a great fear of overstaying my welcome, he told The Ann Arbor News for a recent story.
