Johnson brings soul to Borders

Singer/songwriter Vann Johnson made a short appearance at Borders Wednesday night as a part of her radio promotional tour. She performed two songs, answered questions from the audience, had a table selling CDs and signed autographs. Johnson has performed with Michael Bolton, Yanni and Kenny G, and has an upcoming performance with Ronnie Laws in Los Angeles.

Several nights before, The Michigan Daily was fortunate enough to have an interview with Johnson. Johnson's bold, warm personality caught me by surprise. She is not only a great vocalist, but an inspirationalist. Johnson is full of positive energy, and is passionate about making a difference in this world. Her music is is meant to move people's lives towards a positive and spritual direction.

Johnson is a very much a spritual person, and uses her vocal talent to spread "Messages," (the title of her latest album) that entail lessons she has learned through her life. When asked why she chose a singing career, Johnson responded, "You're here for a short period of time on this earth and if you're not doing something you love, why are you doing it?"

Johnson plans to continue her career spreading "spritually uplifting food for thought" music. "There's a lot of work to get done," Johnson adds. She wants to inspire people to take actions that make them a better person and to pass those successes to someone else. Johnson believes her purpose is to deliver these messages, and she plans to do it the best way she knows how, through her voice.
