New Editors Step into Michigan Daily Leadership
02/09/2007
A new class of editors have taken the reins of The Michigan Daily this week, including, in their own words:
Editor in Chief Karl Stampfl — a junior English major from suburban Chicago who gets his real education in the newsroom.
Managing News Editor Andrew Grossman — a history major from Duxbury, Mass. He has almost completely forsaken class for the Daily, but is probably learning more because of it.
News Editor Gabe Nelson — a sophomore majoring in English and political science. Gabe dreams of being a foreign correspondent (or pretty much anything else) for the Washington Post.
Editorial Page Editor Imran Syed — a third-year student majoring in political science. Besides putting in 40 hours on the editorial page every week, he is also an active film critic for the Arts section and a peer tutor in the Sweetland Writing Center.
Associate Photo Editor Rodrigo Gaya — a Mexican-American-Spaniard who is studying communications. He started to work for the Daily before he was a freshman and will keep doing it because "its a way for me to relax and get away from the pressures of school; and what a better way to do it with something I love doing and will hopefully be doing for the rest of my life."
Managing Design Editor Bridget O'Donnell — a sophomore double-majoring in Political Science and Communication Studies with a passion for innovative newspaper design. This past fall, she helped implement the redesign.
Immediate past Managing Online Editor and now Associate Online Editor Phil Dokas — a graduating senior majoring in Computer Science who came to the Daily two years ago to help make the Daily's site stand out among other college newspapers.
Associate Online Editor Nate Sandals — an LS&A sophomore with an interest in politics. Along with his online duties, Nate covers the Michigan hockey team for the sports section.
