Andy Kroll – Award Winning Daily Journalist

Andy Kroll was a 2008 Michigan Press Association Foundation Scholarship winner. There were ten winners from throughout the state, whom he met with last Friday in Grand Rapids for the MPA's annual convention, when awards were given. Kroll had to submit a body of published work from the Daily for the award, and also a short essay. The award was a $1,000 scholarship.
As for past awards, Kroll took second place award in the 2008 Society of Professional Journalists-Detroit Larry Laurain Journalism grant contest ($1,000) last spring. In the Detroit Press Club Foundation's 2008 Excellence in Journalism competition, also last spring, he won first place for "Student Newspaper Reporting β€” Series" and second and third place for "Student Newspaper Reporting." That all came out to $1,000 as well. Kroll says, β€œall of these awards went right to my nice landlord in Brooklyn to pay for my apartment while I was interning in Manhattan last summer.” He was also named one of the "UWire 100" along with Scott Bell.
