Renovation Nears Completion
The renovation, which began in July, will be completed in just five weeks, followed by furniture installation, move-in at the end of April, and the reunion and building dedication this coming October 26-28, 2007.
Much of the second floor work is nearing completion, including painting. The windows are well on their way toward being restored and many have been reinstalled. New bathrooms have been created on the second floor and the first-floor bathrooms have been moved. The plumbing, heating and cooling, fire suppression system and electrical cable are being installed, and bathroom fixtures are in. Both the shaft for the LU/LA (limited use/limited application) elevator and the car itself are complete, other than the telephone line that will be connected at the very end of the project. The old rear stairway has been replaced to meet the building code and a new emergency exit door has been created at the foot of those stairs on the south side of the building. New terrazzo tile has been laid in the entranceway, and soon the second floor will be carpeted. An acoustical ceiling sprayed on in the City Room immediately softened the booming acoustics! The building looks stunning: bright, open, and uncluttered as never before.
When you see the renovation, we think that you’ll be deeply proud of your role in making it happen.
