Hello Alumni,

With just days till we gather to celebrate the Stanford Lipsey Student Publications Building Dedication and Reunion (there are 364 of us at this moment), consider:

Digital video histories

With thanks to oral historian Roma Connable for this proposal and to Michigan Daily Co-managing Photo Editor Peter Schottenfels for implementation: Write down a favorite memory from your time on The Daily, Ensian, Gargoyle, or Generation magazine, and we will video you telling the story. If you have pictures taken in or around 420 Maynard or other artifacts, bring them so that they can be included in the video with you. You may want to tell your story by yourself or to have two or more of you together. Scheduling is still being worked out, but the best time so far for Peter to shoot you is Friday afternoon…which brings us to the next point:

Get here early, register inside 420 Maynard

Student volunteers will stand ready in the first-floor conference room beginning at noon on Friday to check you in, give you nametags and programs, show/sell you teeshirts and other memorabilia, and take you on tours of the building. If at all possible, please don't wait till 5:30 to come—we won't be able to handle 364 people simultaneously! The Friars, an ensemble of eight male a cappella student singers, will perform at 5:45 in the tent on Maynard Street just in advance of the dedication ceremony.

Parking

We have closed the block in front of the 420 Maynard to traffic for Friday afternoon and evening. Your best bets for parking are municipal structures:

The Maynard Street structure is just one block north of us: http://www.a2dda.org/downloads/MaynardStructure.pdf

The Liberty Square structure is just two blocks north of us; it looks like more because the driving entrance is on Washington Street, but the elevators and stairs bring you down to Liberty Street just yards from Maynard Street. http://www.a2dda.org/downloads/LibertySquareStructure.pdf

You will probably find parking in one of those first two structures, but just in case, here's an option that is four blocks west of us: http://www.a2dda.org/downloads/FourthandWilliamStructure.pdf

For ALL options, here's the place to look: http://www.a2dda.org/parking__transportation/parking_options/

Yes, we do have a University lot behind the Lipsey Building with SOME of its spots open to the public beginning at 6 pm on both Friday and Saturday, but they are hard to come by and you have to read the signs carefully to avoid spots reserved for municipal vehicles, etc.

The good news about parking: it is free all day on Sunday, including city metered spaces and structures and most University spaces.

What to wear on Friday

Deck yourself out a bit—this is an OCCASION! Ties, jackets, dresses. We will be walking a block to the Union after the dedication and then mingling for an hour before dinner, so don't wear shoes that kill your feet (yes, I know I'm not your mother; I just want company wearing comfortable shoes).

Michigan vs. Minnesota

As you probably know, game time has been set for 3:30 pm on Saturday.

Misc.

Other questions? Let me know—as you certainly will—and we'll get answers to the entire group. The Board, students, staff, and I can't wait to see you!
